Covelano
What is Bianco Covelano Marble like?
Bianco Covelano Marble, also known as Bianco Lasa, is extracted in Italy, in the autonomous province of Bolzano, in South Tyrol.
Being located at high altitudes, the quarries are only productive in the mildest months of the year; nevertheless, this kind of marble is found quite easily.
Covelano Marble is known for its unique characteristics that make it one of the most valuable marbles in the world. Its highly crystalline structure not only makes it a highly resistant material, but also enhances its translucence, a much-appreciated quality that allows creating light effects and aesthetic depth in any environments in which it is used.
What colour is Bianco Covelano Marble?
White Covelano Marble is not celebrated only for its structural qualities and great strength, but also for its extraordinarily beautiful colour, which makes it one of the most desired marbles worldwide. Indeed, the colour of Bianco Covelano Marble is perhaps one of the most fascinating aspects of this material.
It is a stone known for its extremely bright background, which reflects light vividly and purely, and can vary significantly in hue from warmer to cooler whites. This variety of nuances allows it to adapt perfectly to different contexts and decorative styles, both modern and traditional, always guaranteeing an elegant visual impact.
Another characteristic of Bianco Covelano are its veins, which can appear in more or less intense golden and grey tones, making each Bianco Covelano slab unique and unrepeatable. The golden veins add a touch of luxury and refinement, while the grey veins offer a subtle contrast that can further enhance the brightness of the white.
HOW TO USE WHITE COVELANO MARBLE
Bianco Covelano Marble, often described as the white gold of the Alps, is used in a variety of contexts. Its specific pure and crystalline structure minimises water absorption and its particular resistance to frost make it particularly appreciated by sculptors and stonemasons.
Bianco Covelano is equally popular in the architecture and design sector, and is ideal for interior and exterior applications, such as kitchen and bathroom tops, floors, wall coverings, and staircases, both in luxury residential environments and in commercial and public facilities. In addition, it is frequently used in restoration and conservation projects, where the use of materials that reflect the integrity and historical value of the original building is paramount.
Choosing Bianco Covelano Marble for a project is not only an aesthetic decision, but also an investment.
The quality of this marble increases the value of real estate, ensuring beauty for generations to come.
A wide range of finishing
The aesthetic value of Bianco Covelano Marble can be enhanced through specific processes, such as:
Polished
Polishing is one of the most widely used techniques to emphasise the natural beauty of White Covelano Marble, as it best enhances the way its crystals shine. This finish applied to marble surfaces produces a smooth, shiny surface that reflects light in a special way, enhancing the veining and colour depth of this marble.
Honed
Honing is an important way to process Covelano Marble to achieve a uniformly smooth surface. Unlike polishing, this finish will make the stone look delicately shiny and more velvety through the use of different abrasive brushes. Although not as shiny as polished marble, this finish makes it just as elegant.
Rough
Rough Bianco Covelano Marble slabs offer the natural texture and original characteristics of this precious marble, with its typical colours and veining. The rough surface can still be particularly attractive for certain types of architectural projects, or to create decorative elements that require a more natural appearance.

History of Bianco Covelano Marble
Bianco Covelano Marble is not only one of the world’s most prized marbles for its external beauty; its geological history is equally fascinating and unique. The formation process of this exceptional marble dates back over 500 million years, and involves geological phenomena of global significance.
True marble, like that of Covelano, is classified among the ‘metamorphic rocks’. These are formed exclusively through the transformation (metamorphosis) of limestone, caused by exposure to extreme conditions of heat and pressure, deep within the Earth. During this process, the original limestone, consisting mainly of calcite, becomes compact, increasingly harder and more transparent, differing considerably from the initial sediment.
White Covelano Marble has undergone a double metamorphosis, a rare and distinctive phenomenon. Originating from Triassic limestones, formed in an ancient, shallow subtropical sea, this marble has gone through an exceptional geological history, with the first transformation occurring some 350-320 million years ago. This period of intense geological activity led to the formation of a marble with the first exceptional qualities of hardness and transparency.
Its long history and modern applications testify to the continued relevance and value of this extraordinary Italian marble.
